Caissons are typically designed to support structures such as hillside foundations, retaining walls and swimming pools. Caissons are also frequently engineered to stabilize failing hillsides. The process begins with using a drill rig to drill through unstable surface soils in order to reach deeper bedrock to both support the weight of the structure and also to resist lateral movement. Once the holes are drilled to proper depth, steel rebar cages are placed into the drilled shaft with a crane and then it is filled with concrete. Typically grade beam foundations are placed over a grid of caissons or a retaining wall is built bearing on a grade beam that is tied directly to a row of caissons, usually between 8-10 feet apart.

Our diverse drilling equipment is capable of drilling diameters from 12" to 8' and to depths of 85 feet without the need for stemming. For jobs with limited access, our smallest limited access rig only requires 36" horizontal clearance and 8' vertical clearance.
